We get asked a LOT - what is an EPK and what should I include in my EPK? So let's take some time to demystify it for you. An EPK stands for electronic press kit that you must include when booking gigs or really pitching yourself anywhere. It’s the quick snapshot of you as an artist! This is ideal for potential collaborators or venues to assess whether if you could be a fit. Think of it as your band's CV. No matter the size of the band, every artist has a press kit in some form. They can be simply for getting external press and coverage for a single or albums release, pitching for festivals and shows, requesting reviews or even brand deals. It is your big pitch.
This will give people the details of who you are, what you do, have done and want to do. It should be there to tell a story and give a good insight to what you're all about.
It should be a one page PDF with clickable links as a format and kept up to date as much as possible. Let your latest songs be your links, your latest stats and information. Like any time you're pitching yourself, everyone wants to know what you've done recently.
5 EPK Must haves:
Professional quality photo
Your Bio - make this a medium length
Clickable links to streaming and all socials (Use the icon and hyperlink to it. Like FB, TT, IG etc)
Include your website and all contact information
Include a link to your latest videos and songs if available
In addition, talk about the most recent shows, places you've shown up in the press and more. This is your time to shine while keeping the information relevant.
Make it easy to read and follow. The ease of use, makes a huge difference when people are receiving masses of emails a day. If possible, try to embed your press kit in the email so that it is readily accessible for the reader. Make them easy to read but also add your branding to it. EPKs are a must have for growing bands and form a big part of the success story in getting attention of your audience.
