What’s the difference between Artist Management and Artist Coaching:

Heavy Metal Hippie Music offers both artist management and independent artist coaching services and while there is some crossover from management to coaching, there are unique roles within the two.  But if you wanted to draw the line, what’s the difference between artist management and artist coaching?

The easiest way to differentiate is that management pulls you ahead by securing work for you and shapes your music career based on well calculated decisions, while coaching guides you to discover the path and the confidence to get where you determine you want to go. Both are extremely valuable in different aspects and complement each other very well.

Here are a few truths though – a manager can also be a coach, but generally the coach won’t offer management type services to an artist. Coaches are usually hands off and let you get down to the big work while helping guide you through the process. When we coach our artists, we look to overcome obstacles that stop artists from reaching their potential, to help them get through creative blocks, to discover their voice and guide them on their growth as an artist both personally and professionally. We add a bit more to the mix with our artist coaching when it’s asked for though. We help make connections for people, help them book gigs, help with their growth strategy and work together on getting them noticed. Our coaching can encompass so much more where we do take on some of the management type roles within.

Managers are there hustling on your behalf all the time, they’re out getting deals across the board like sync deals, brand deals, gigs, collaborations, obtaining and negotiating  record deals, and expanding your network plus TONS more. The list is endless of the work that a manager puts into an artist. While we do that work for some of our artists as well, when artists are starting out we love this blended method of coaching and also giving their own steps to take to reach their goals.
